The California State University, Dominguez Hills Foundation was incorporated in 1968 as a partner of the University to provide services and develop and enhance programs that are an integral part of the University's educational mission. CSU Dominguez Hills is a highly diverse, metropolitan university primarily serving the South Bay area of Los Angeles County. Established in 1960, CSU Dominguez Hills is one of the 23 campuses that comprise the California State University system.

About the Position

Background: CSI3 is dedicated to providing future and current CSI3 teachers with a combination of educational experienced geared to prepare them for 21st Century Learners. Through all of its programs, CSI3 is systematically addressing the shortage of STEM teachers in high-need schools in and around the Los Angeles area and across the state. CSI3 has developed innovative undergraduate, credential, and graduate programs, and has formed multiple partnerships with high-need schools and school districts as well as community colleges.

Work directly and under the supervision of the Director of STEM Education and Teacher Development. The Instructional Support Expert will, via coaching, provide resources, lesson planning, demonstration lessons, professional development, mentoring guidance, and feedback, to support the instructional duties of pre-service and in-service teachers enrolled in any of the programs housed under the CA STEM Institute for Innovation & Improvement (CSI3). Required to lead STEAM Weeks and Lab Schools; train teachers, students, and community members in the use of fabrication technology and incorporate the use of technology into the STEAM curriculum (training will be provided).

Position Information

This position is a full-time, salary-exempt, benefited position, plus employer-sponsored health, dental vision, life insurance, retirement program, and sick/vacation pay.

Annual Salary Range:  $60,000.00 $65,000.00 -Depending on Qualifications, plus benefits


Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Understanding and knowledge of NGSS and CCSS at an expert level for the purpose of leading professional development, supporting teachers, and developing STEM curriculum.
  2. English Expert will assist in creating and reviewing reports. Excellent written communication skills are required.
  3. Facilitate, lead and develop curricula that support the Teacher Support Institute (TSI)
  4. Schedule regular school site visits and coaching sessions with CSI3 classroom teachers
  5. Provide timely, constructive feedback following focused observations
  6. Assist and consult with classroom teachers in diagnosing classroom difficulties
  7. Suggest resources needed to ensure conceptual understanding in CCSS and NGSS based lessons
  8. Conduct and model teaching and learning strategies
  9. Provide co-teaching and/or demo lessons that foster conceptual understanding and rigorous instruction in mathematics and the STEM field
  10. Support teachers with pacing instructional units, planning appropriate intervention support, and implementing appropriate accommodation strategies
  11. Develop and deliver STEM Curriculum for various instructional projects, such as STEM Lab Schools, STEAM Weeks, and STEAM Days.
  12. Design, develop and lead professional development applicable and appropriate for CSI3 staff, pre-service teachers, and in-service teachers on effective instructional strategies and developments in STEM education
  13. Collaborate with CSI3 coordinators, CSI3 teachers, and school site administrative teams to provide the best instructional environment for teaching, learning, and student success
  14. Collaborate with CSI3 coordinators, faculty, and staff, to plan, develop and design activities that promote STEM in the education field
  15. Support the CSI3 STEM Lab Schools
  16. Complete other duties as assigned

Minimum Employment Standards

Qualifications/Experience

Required:

  1. Clear teaching credential with a minimum of 4 years successful teaching experience
  2. Ability to travel to school sites throughout CSI3's service area
  3. Experience supporting adult learners in a lead, coaching, mentoring, or out-of-classroom teaching position
  4. Evidence of success with working with (or in) traditionally under-performing, high-poverty, urban schools
  5. In-depth knowledge of implementing engaging, innovative STEAM-based lessons
  6. In-depth knowledge of differentiating classroom instructional practices that promote student achievement
  7. Experience utilizing Google Suites for Education
  8. Well-versed in effective classroom management strategies, redirecting negative behavior strategies, pedagogical learning strategies, as well as, teaching and learning theories.
  9. Ability to collaborate with people from diverse backgrounds (academically, economically, and culturally) with varying skills 
  10. Experience with integrating technology and 21st-century learning skills into K-12 instruction/curriculum
  11. Knowledge understanding the needs of specialized populations (EL, SEL, Gifted, disabled, SpED, high-poverty, at-risk) in traditionally under-served communities 
  12. Willingness to work in a team environment
  13. Willingness to work evenings and weekends as needed

 

Preferred: Teaching and coaching experience in a high-need school district

Education Required: Master’s degree or currently enrolled in a master’s degree program
