The California State University, Dominguez Hills Foundation was incorporated in 1968 as a partner of the University to provide services and develop and enhance programs that are an integral part of the University's educational mission. CSU Dominguez Hills is a highly diverse, metropolitan university primarily serving the South Bay area of Los Angeles County. Established in 1960, CSU Dominguez Hills is one of the 23 campuses that comprise the California State University system.
 

About the Position

Take the lead in supporting incoming transfer students individually and in small groups by becoming acquainted with your assigned cohort's academic needs by: being approachable, available, supportive, and encouraging to enrich their experiences via campus involvement and leadership opportunities
  
This is a part-time, non-exempt, non-benefited position.

Position Information

Employment at the Foundation is on an at-will basis and can be terminated by either an employee or the Foundation at any time with or without cause or advanced notice. Permanent status can neither be obtained nor granted. 

Salary Range

$13.00 per hour

Responsibilities

 Enroll in the UNV 395 COURSE (Summer 2020)  to provide the TPC with foundational professional experience and supply them with the tools needed to help their fellow transfer students succeed 
  • Collaborate with peers, faculty, advisors, and campus resources to establish multiple layers of support the students in their cohorts can utilize 
  •  Serve as a positive role model and mentor for incoming transfer students in regards to academic and student life at CSUDH
  •  Visit community colleges with academic advisors 
  • Attend meetings for on-going professional development training
  • Attend and actively participate in additional training as deemed necessary
  • Provide written assessment and reports regarding student caseload weekly
  • Keep accurate and thorough documentation of interactions with students
  • Perform other duties as assigned to ensure the program is successfully supporting our students
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support the overall function of the University Advisement Center

Minimum Qualifications
  •  Must be at least 2nd year transfer student  
  • Minimum 3.0 CSUDH GPA at the time their application is submitted, on their official start date, and throughout their employment with Dominguez Hills Transfer Learning Community (DHTLC)
  • Enrolled in at least 12 units per semester for the 2019-2020 academic year
  • Available to attend mandatory Summer 2020 training and New Transfer Student Orientations (May-Aug 2020), which includes enrolling in and passing the required UNV 395 course during Summer Session I (the course is paid for by the UAC)
  • Available to work minimum 15 hours per week each semester of the 2020-2021 academic year
  • Commit to a set schedule for the entire 2020-2021 academic year (August 2020-May 2021)
  • Commit to the position for the entire 2020-2021 academic year (August 2020-May 2021)

Conditions of Employment

Employment for this position is contingent upon Compton Unified School District approving and placing tutors at one of their school sites. If Compton Unified School District does not place a tutor at one of their school sites or removes a tutor from a school site, then the Foundation may not be able to continue the employment of the tutor due to all tutor position funding being provided by Compton Unified School District. 

The person holding this position is considered a 'mandated reporter' under the California Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act and is required to comply with the requirements set forth as a condition of employment.

A background check (including a criminal records check) must be completed satisfactorily for any position that the CSUDH Foundation deems sensitive. Sensitive positions are those requiring heightened scrutiny of individuals holding the position based on the potential for harm to children, concerns for the safety and security of people, animals, or property, or heightened risk of financial loss to the CSUDH Foundation or individuals in the university community.
